In this Music Observer Book by Ursula the book isa carved into, overlaid and embedded with new images and objects creating a new sculptural composition.
The idea of layers – of thinking, understanding and seeing – are given form in these book sculptures. Books are often seen to contain the answers to what we seek to learn and in these compositions, the added objects often over hang the border of the book thus giving visual representation to the idea that not everything is contained within. Though wall hanging and considered 2d, projects outwardly into the viewers space and is considered wall sculpture.
This bright yellow Observer book of Music is embedded with a fragment from Jan Steen’s painting, The Harpsichord Lesson.
