Bonnie & Clyde is a talented Brighton based artist that uses collage, type, paint and photography to produce stunning limited edition prints and mixed media originals.
Her cool collages take us from Havana’s curious skyline to palm tree lined Venice Beach and the urban streets of New York.
Bonnie & Clyde’s love of collage first began on Foundation course. After a career that has seen her take a detour via furniture, 3d design, graphic design and photography, she now works as a full time mixed media artist.
The collage style that she is known for involves a lengthy and complex process of printing, scanning, cutting, layering and painting. Starting with a simple drawing, the artist then delves into her archive of photographs which is then scanned and layered, and so begins a back and forth process between computer and paper.
Her collaged cityscapes use photographs taken with her 5 megapixels fixed lens Leica, and travel forms part of her process. She says that physically being in a place lets her draw on the mood, feeling, right and palette of that place. She also uses travel to build her archive of photographs and is particularly drawn to the graphic forms of modernist buildings and the rhythmic lines of skyscrapers. In her art we see expansive skylines and exotic blues of pools sometimes tipping in perspective, sometimes observing swimmers and people.
