Born in Paris, with a publisher for a father, Godec has always loved books, as much as for what they look like as well for their content.
Over the years, he has been collecting old books (and sometimes new ones) that will either look good or will tell a story other than the one written inside.
Sometimes he is particularly amazed at some of the wonderful colours on covers of early 19th century books. And also how the quality of the paper changes from one book to the other.
So, he gives some of those really old and unloved books a new life and a new purpose.
Cutting out the images and illustrations from the books, Godec then creates new compositions in layers, that are embedded back into the window he has carved into the hardback books.
The results provide new ways of retelling the content of the book through layering of imagery, as well as being beautiful to look at!
