Janet Brooke WallCanary Wharf Head in the Clouds is a linocut print is taken from the series 36 Views of Canary Wharf – a play on the title of the wood prints by Hokusai titled 36 Views of Mount Fuji.

Of this print Janet says

“Possibly the one that most references Hokusai (see “Mishima Pass in Kai Province” no. 16 in his 36 Views of Mount Fuji) this view looking up at just the tip particularly reminded me of his depictions of Mount Fuji, with the ever present stream of gases from the air conditioning echoing his cloud formations round the summit.”

Janet Brooke is a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and she has exhibited internationally. Her series titled ’36 views of Canary Wharf’ is widely acclaimed and a full set of this series is owned by the Museum of London as part of their permanent collection. At Orso Major we have a selection of her prints inspired by the Japanese style of printmaking. The images include Canary Wharf, The Gherkin and City Churches
