Description

St Bartholomew the Great by Janet Brooke is a new print that features the church that is thought to be London’s oldest surviving church.

This print is one of four new pieces for Autumn 2015, as Brooke takes on the subject of the medieval churches in the City of London.

Her series of Wren churches was completed earlier in 2015 which culminated in an exhibition of the work at Gallery 101, on Queen Victoria Street, London.

Janet Brooke is a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and she has exhibited internationally. She produces linocut prints of Landmark buildings adored by Londoners. Her series titled ’36 views of Canary Wharf’ is widely acclaimed and a full set of the series is owned by the Museum of London as part of their permanent collection. At Orso Major we have a selection of her prints inspired by the Japanese style of printmaking. The series of City churches comprises of 34 Wren Churches, 2 Hawksmoor, plus 4 mediaeval churches. The series was started in 2006 with St Brides Fleet Street and the artist added four new pieces to the series in 2014.
